Once again, it was my privilege to be able to do an updated photo shoot for the phenomenal Hope for Paws animal rescue organization here in Los Angeles. This time there was a good lesson to be learned. The founder of the rescue and the man who rescues the animals is Eldad Hagar. He was called by actress Allison Dunbar, who found a little dog under a car along a busy street.
Eldad and Allison were able to get the little baby out from under the car safely. Now if you follow Hope for Paws at all, you know many times the dogs Eldad rescues are homeless, strays, abandoned or discarded. But when Eldad scanned the frightened girl for a microchip, he found one! And he called the number and lo and behold, Dave, the owner, had been looking for his dog Luna for four days. Her brother had been hit by a car -- he was okay -- but in the chaos, Luna slipped from her collar and disappeared.
Luna was reunited with her dad and the joy the two felt at being together again will bring you to tears. Thanks to Allison for taking the lead and Eldad for following through for a happy ending to this story.
And the lesson? Chip your pets! If that collar slips off, that may be your only chance to get your beloved pets back. Although my two boys stay inside the house, both are chipped and I'm so grateful to have that peace of mind.
