Yeah, I'm about to brag. I just got back from Thailand! Wow, what a wonderful country! From the people to the food, Thailand is an amazing place.
We did a nine-day tour in central Thailand, which included Bangkok, Kanchanaburi Province, and Ayutthaya, which has so many ruins, it puts Rome to shame.
Thailand is colorful, warm, harsh, beautiful, friendly, dangerous, fragrant place. Bangkok holds on tightly to its charms but they are there... in the riverside, temples and the tranquility that you might find at somewhere like Jim Thompson's house.
Kanchanaburi has the history of the Death Railway (who can't get the theme to "The Bridge Over River Kwai" out of their heads?), the confluence of two major rivers, and the jungle.
And Ayutthaya is the former capital of Thailand but was burned by Burmese invaders. The ruins are spectacular and plentiful.
Now what does this have to do with pet photography? Oh, nothing. It's just I was away from home for more than a week and didn't have anything to show you. And this monster must be fed.
I saw a lot of dogs whose lives I feared for as they stood so close to the road. And Thai drivers? Well, they are speedy, that's for sure (I'm looking at you, tuk-tuk drivers), but I didn't see one dog that had been hit by a car and that was surprising in a very good way. But for the most part, the dogs I saw were just sleeping and looked perfectly content. I saw more dogs than cats but the greatest cat I saw was when we were walking to the night market and came upon three men and a cat having dinner at a restaurant on the street.
The cat was part of the table as if it had been invited to its own place. I loved that. And so I have to show you this little snippet of Thai cat life that I found in Bangkok. Truly charming.
If you want to see more of my images of Thailand, I put them on my personal Facebook page. You don't even need an account there to see them!
