Shelter Hope Pet Shop in Thousand Oaks is a really nice pet store. I've said it once, I'll say it again. It's a very pleasant place to spend some time. Shelter Hope showcases rescued animals and shelter dogs at a storefront at the Janss Marketplace.
It's really remarkable, the dogs stay in little gated pens -- white picket fences -- and go home with a foster family every night. I first heard of the organization after watching a Hope for Paws rescue in which the super cute dog was taken in by Shelter Hope and eventually adopted.
I contacted Kim Sill, who created Shelter Hope, and she allows me to come in and photograph the dogs there in hopes of getting them adopted. I found a really pretty spot just across the street from the mall where I can photograph the dogs surrounded by purple and white flowers. I don't mean to humble brag, but I do know that the photos help them get adopted because a woman wrote me to tell me that she adopted her dog after seeing the picture I took of him.
Anyway, we have quite a system for taking the photos, the volunteers and I, and yesterday we photographed seven.
These are all really cute dogs and I know they'll find homes. If you see one that catches your fancy, you'd better run, not walk, to Shelter Hope! The pet shop is at 193 N. Moorpark Rd. East, Suite F, in Thousand Oaks and the number there is 805.379.3538.
And if you already have a dog, I'd love to hear from you. I'm Diana Lundin and I am a Los Angeles pet photographer. Call me at 818.481.5214.
