Excuse me while I pick myself off the floor... okay, ready. We photographed 192 dogs over seven Ice Cream Socials for Dogs in August and September. We did it. Yes, it was the most fun you can have with a frozen treat. And it was also exhausting but oh lordy, I got to laugh and meet great people with great dogs. I mean, come on, dogs eating ice cream? It was the best.
You know I photographed these for a book, right? And in the next 15 days I get to sort through all of these images and figure out which ones to submit to the publisher. For reals, this is going to be a tough one. There are certain categories the doggies tend to fall in... the chompers, the delicate lickers, the I-can't-believe-I get-to-eat-this, the what cone, was there a cone?, the skeered ones, and the don't-interrupt-me-while-I'm-licking-this-thing.
One dog scarfed three cones before he slowed down enough to get his photo taken on the fourth one. A family of two small pups ate three ice creams each. I don't recommend this, not at all, but you know, some just loved it. And some just hated it, too. Those expressions are just as funny. It can be deceiving -- there may be 50 shots of the dog liking the cone but then he gets a brain freeze and has to stop. It looks like he's rejecting the cone but it's really just a moment to get his brain back together. And yes, some tongues froze, too. It was so funny.
I want to thank everyone for taking the time to bring out their dogs to one of the Ice Cream Socials for Dogs. We were all over the Los Angeles area. Chatsworth, Echo Park, Huntington Beach, Beverly Hills, Playa Vista, Studio City and even my own back yard for the neighbor dogs. I hope you all had as much fun as I did.
From the first, Astro, to the last, Luna, all the dogs were special, from the blind, to the lame, to the puppies just entering their years of companionship with their owners and every loved dog in between. And a few adoptables, too. You made us laugh!
A big shout out to Chris Jacoby and Dustin Smith (the BEST neighbors ever), Ashlee Pierce at Pussy & Pooch Beverly Hills, Chris Nguyen at K9 Logic, Chris Potter, Rhennie Viloria at Go Build Business, Karen Mahmalji at Top Dog Barkery, Lindsey Baily at Kriser's Studio City, Misty Espinoza at Annenberg PetSpace, and Purina for providing Frosty Paws to all the pooches. You were all awesome and we couldn't have done it without you! And last but certainly not least, Vicki Torres, the best partner in life anyone could ever have!
The book will be coming out in September 2019 (oh hey, it would make a great holiday gift!) and you will hear more about it as time draws nearer to publication. For now, I've got to cull through all of the shoots and find the best of the best and make my deadline.
I leave you with Astro and Luna, my first and last.
Thanks again, L.A.!! Want to do it again in 2019? We're on!
