I volunteer as a photographer when I can at Perry's Place, Heaven on Earth Society for Animals sanctuary for cats. It was named for Perry MacFarlane, who died after a long battle with breast cancer. She was a huge lover of animals and her son, "Family Guy's" Seth MacFarlane, established the North Hollywood sanctuary in her memory.
There are several rooms in the sanctuary, each housing a dozen or so cats. They are well taken care of. The ones I've been in contact with are extremely friendly. And sadly some of them have been at the shelter for years. Like more than eight years. Now don't get me wrong, there are far worse places cats could end up. It is a very nice facility. But wouldn't they make a great pets? It's the older ones that have trouble getting adopted. I just lost two of my cats and I'm letting the last one live out her life in graceful retirement curled up in her bed in my office, spooning next to me at night.
But when the time comes, my next cat is going to be an older cat from Perry's Place. They still have so much love to give. I can only hope the pictures I take of them help them find their homes. They have adoption events on the weekends. Go check them out.
And Heaven on Earth is having its annual gala September 18. Check out their website for more details. And you can bid on a pet session from me in the silent auction. It comes with a $100 print credit!
