Oh yes we did! We photographed way more than 130 dogs at the inaugural Dogs's Day at the South Coast Botanic Garden in Palos Verdes Peninsula this past Saturday. Whew, my friends... that's a lotta dog. But fun! So many cute dogs! Really! Turned out, the turnout was incredible, probably far more than the garden folk were expecting. And free dog photos was quite the draw! We had a line snaking around the lawn.
We had great areas to photograph in, given that it's a botanic garden (that is not usually open to dogs, by the way). Our given area was a beautiful white gazebo. The morning started out quite foggy. So there was a nice soft box-like quality to the light. But as it went on, the clouds dissipated and we had harsher -- and let's not forget -- hotter light beaming down on us.
So at the suggestion of a photographer, ha ha -- and no, not me! -- we moved under the shade of a giant tree to continue our shoot. We blocked the harsh light and created our own. And got gorgeous portraits.
It was such a fun event and I think a very successful one for SCBG as well. Who knows, maybe it will be back next year. I'd want it back! And I wouldn't mind being asked back myself. Take a look yourself, https://dianalundin.shootproof.com/gallery/DogsDay
Here's a few cuties...
