Assignment: Photograph Three People, Three Dogs for Holiday Card
When I got the email from a referral, I wasn't sure I was the right photographer for this session. But once everything was underway, it clicked. Literally.
My clients were into cosplay, Steampunk style specifically. And they had just adopted a terminally ill dog that had a leg amputated. Morgan got the idea to have Leila photographed as Tiny Tim and it snowballed from there. We went Victorian. Hard to believe, but we photographed each dog and person individually, then put them on a background of Morgan's choice. It was crazy. Crazy cool.
After that, they wanted one of four people with four dogs. The space we had to work with was limited (would be nicer in a studio but that is in the future. Right?) so I took my white background, made a white floor, and photographed them in four groups... each person with a dog... and then combined them in post-processing.
The beauty of composites is that you can tell a story by placing your subjects in a different environment and you can make it appear as if everyone is together when they really aren't. And you know how there's always that one person/dog that blinks or looks otherwise strange in what would have been the best photo? Not to worry, you just pick the best.
Want something totally different? Want a storytelling session yourself? (You should see the next one coming... it's really awesome!) Give me a call at 818.481.5214. I'm Diana Lundin, I'm in Los Angeles, and I want to be YOUR pet photographer!
